The longest-running 10-K event in the state has been canceled for the second straight year.

Last year it was bad weather, and this year it’s coronavirus that has put a stop to the Statesman Cap 10K. That decision has been made on the heels of the city’s decision to impose a 250-person maximum on any large gathering until at least May 1. According to the Statesman, more than 26,000 runners were registered. Prior to last year, the race had been a fixture of Austin every year since 1978. Race organizers say they are looking at alternatives, including a possible virtual race using pictures and hashtags shared on social media.
