Watch: Ed Sheeran Covers Eric Clapton's Classic "Layla"

On the last day of 2017, Ed Sheeran took the stage at legendary BBC mainstay Jools Holland's Annual Hootenanny concert to perform his chart-topping hit "Perfect", and a cover of a song by one of his biggest inspirations, Eric Clapton's 1971 classic, "Layla". Inspired by a 12th-century book The Story of Layla And Manjun, Clapton wrote the hit single about the tale's leading lady, an Arabian princess married off by her father and forbidden to be with the man that she loves. Beneath the surface, however, "Layla" also tells the story of a love triangle Clapton himself was involved in, with none other than Beatles' guitarist George Harrison and his then-wife Pattie Boyd, whom Clapton was madly in love with. The Harrisons later divorced, and Pattie was remarried to Eric Clapton two years later.
