Most Beautiful Trails to Run in Austin

2018 is finally here and with that comes New Year's resolutions! If one of the items on your list is to get healthier, we want to help you reach your goal.

Calling upon the expertise of our resident fitness guru, Erin Truslow, the owner of Big Pistachio Racing Team here in Austin and the coach to many local athletes in triathlon, running, and cycling, we asked where some of the most beautiful trails are around Austin to help you get started.

Check out her suggestions below:

1. Austin High School track

If you're up for it, set your alarm(s) and get on the trail at sunrise. The hour may seem insane but it's definitely worth it! This is one of the best views in the city.

2. The Scenic Loop

Start by the Mopac Bridge and head down Lake Austin Blvd towards the Hula Hut, then tuck into the neighborhood via Scenic.  The views of the lake are amazing and the houses are incredible.

3. The Brushy Creek Regional Trail

This is a great North option for a vehicle-free running path.  You can run on concrete and crushed granite or take off through the trees for some epic trail running.  You can start at either end or in places in the middle. There is no end to the combinations you can run there, and more trail / path is always being added, so your marathon training long runs are a perfect match for BCRT.

4. Town Lake Trail

Okay, this seems like an obvious choice and depending on how close to downtown you live, you'll probably start your fitness goals on this trail. But when you're ready, change things up, challenge yourself and run it in the opposite direction than you normally would.  It’s a totally different trail at that point and you’ll see so many new things! Run the whole 10-mile loop and you’ll notice the different parts of Austin represented.
