We pick out the week's best new music, so you don't have to.

Metric - Synthetica
In their first album since 2009's Fantasies, Metric delves deeper into the moody, electronically driven rock that set them apart from the wash of female fronted bands that cropped up in the Aughts. The catchy guitar hooks and Emily Haines' frentic vocals are still there, but lush synthesizer tracks keep the band sounding fresh and relevant. Synthetica is streaming in its entirety at Stereogum.

Ed Sheeran - +
British singer-songwriter (and beatboxer) Ed Sheeran made his bones playing wherever he could -- coffee shops, comedy open mics, and hip hop shows. It's no wonder that he's gotten noticed despite the unconventional career path. Sheeran's heartfelt, personal songs recall early Damien Rice. + is streaming at British GQ.

Jukebox The Ghost - Safe Travels
Philadelphia trio Jukebox the Ghost sound like an amalgamation of every piano rock band that you've ever loved, with a little bit of throwback West Coast indie. They're theatrical and upbeat without being over-the-top. In a word, they're fun. You can hear Safe Travels courtesy of the AV Club.
