Join The Trash Walk this Saturday!

Posted 6/6/2013 12:25:00 AM

A local resident of East Riverside, Leslie Redden, decided to take the trashy walk she experiences every morning on the way to the bus stop into her own hands.  She created an event to help beautify East Riverside and get her community involved as well! Neighborhood businesses The Buzz Mill Coffee Shop and Antone's Nightclub heard about the event and jumped right on board. Buzz Mill Coffee will offer free coffee to attendees, and Antone's will be giving away free passes to shows to those who attend the Trash Walk.

Meet at The Buzz Mill, at 1505 Town Creek Drive at 10 a.m. this Saturday, June 8, for some free coffee to get started.  Gloves and trash bags will be provided.

Organizers emphasize that this is a great way to give back, meet your neighbors, have fun, and clean up your neighborhood! They plan on doing this again on East Riverside and would love ...

Meet My Friend Charles

Posted 5/30/2013 11:54:00 AM

Charles is 90-something, goes Tango dancing every week ("I dance fast," he says,) and writes poetry.
I met him at the 23rd Annual Summer Fan Drive Kickoff Celebration, which featured Mayor Lee Leffingwell (who received some good-natured heckling from Charles.)
The event was sponsored by Family Eldercare, who have been serving seniors, adults with disabilities, caregivers and families for over 30 years.
Family Eldercare and KGSR will team up once again for our summer fan drive at Fan Fare Friday, on Friday, June 21st.  Mark your calendar, and plan to join us!

After 23 years of awareness and community support, Family Eldercare will deliver the 73,000th fan to a deserving senior this summer!

Text And Help Oklahoma

Posted 5/22/2013 8:05:00 AM

The massive tornado that tore through the Oklahoma City suburb of Moore on Monday was one of the strongest in US history, and the destruction left in its wake is devastating.

Here are some quick, easy ways that you can help:

Text the word "Storm" to 80888 to contribute $10 to the Salvation Army's relief efforts.

Text "REDCROSS" to 90999 to give $10 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief.

Text "LIVE to 25383 to make a $10 donation to AmeriCares disaster relief team.

The list goes on and on.  Here are a couple of sites with extensive listings of ways to help:

Thanks, KVUE and USA Today.

If you missed Muse in March when they came through Texas (yeah, I didn't make the drive to Dallas or Houston, either,) here's your chance to see them.  They're part of the m-m-m-m-madness in Atlanta this weekend, headlining a free party called "The Big Dance Concert Series."  They play Saturday (4/6) at 7:30 pm; link to the stream here.
