Watch Lorde Performing as a 12-Year-Old
12/4/2013 12:29:00 PM
It's shocking enough that Lorde (whose real name is Ella Maria Lani Yelich-O'Connor) just tuned 17 last month ... but it's even crazier that she already had this much performing poise in middle school, as you can see (with her band Extreme) at a 2009 Battle of the Bands in New Zealand below:
They came in 3rd, but that performance got her discovered, anyway. Here's more video - same song, just different quality!

It's hard to believe, but 2014 is less than a month away! There are already a number of great KGSR artists booked through the end of May, and I thought you'd appreciate having that list on one place with handy links to buy tickets (click the venue name). Christmas IS right around the corner, you know. Present ideas, anyone?

Broken Bells Present New Album AND Short Film (Watch Here)
11/27/2013 10:58:00 AM
The power duo Broken Bells (comprised of The Shins' James Mercer and producer extraordinaire Danger Mouse) are bringing you their sophomore effort, After the Disco, on January 14th. What's REALLY cool, though, is that Mr. Mouse also wrote a short film by the same name, which will be released together with the album. Directed by Jacob Gentry and produced by POPfilms in conjunction with The Creators Project, it stars Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) and Kate Mara (House of Cards). Check out parts one ("Angel and the Fool") and two ("Holding on for Life") below!
Is Your High School One of the Best in the Country?
11/21/2013 11:40:00 AM
Newsweek magazine just released their annual list of the best public schools in America (and I'm going to go ahead and assume that's the only reason my private alma mater, Bishop Shanahan in Downingtown PA, isn't included).
Ten in Austin proper made the list:
33) Liberal Arts and Science Academy HS
57) Westwood HS
93) Westlake HS
410) Chaparrel Star Academy
420) Lake Travis HS
476) James Bowie HS
508) NYOS Charter School
611) L. C. Anderson HS
1280) Stephen F. Austin HS
1649) A. N. McCallum
A few from surrounding suburbs made the list, too. See all 2000 here.

Vote for Your Favorite 2014 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductee
11/14/2013 11:00:00 AM
Ever find yourself asking, "How is **insert band here** NOT in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?!" Well, now you can do something about it. For the second year in a row, fans have been given some sway over which artists get the honors. You have until December 10th to vote on the Rolling Stone website. The top five bands will comprise the fan's ballot, which counts among 600+ industry professionals' votes. Bands in the running this year include Peter Gabriel, Hall & Oates, Cat Stevens (seriously - how is he not in there yet?!) and many more. Kiss is currently in the lead. I gotta vote for Nirvana, though. What about you?
Gwen Stefani IS Pregnant!
10/23/2013 10:33:00 AM
FINALLY, we have some proof after a month and a half of speculation. Tabloids in all shades of reputability exploded in early September with news that Gwen and Gavin Rossdale were expecting baby #3, but the singer and fashion icon declined to deny or confirm the rumors. Technically she still has not released official word, but Rachel Zoe shared this undeniable evidence from Beverly Hills' Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts Inaugural Gala the other night on Instagram:
That's definitely a baby bump, y'all. Before I go on, can we talk about how ageless Gwen is? The woman just turned 44 on October 3rd, yet she doesn't look a day older than she did when Tragic Kingdom was released in 1995. Damn, girlfriend. Just, damn.
Anyway - this is all bit shocking, considering Gwen revelead in her Vogue magazine cover story back in January that she and Gavin had tried for a third ...
Hear a New U2 Song, "Ordinary Love"
10/21/2013 1:12:00 PM
It's been three years since we've heard new music from U2. Fittingly, the band wrote this song specifically for the Nelson Mandela biopic, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (hear it in the trailer below). The film is set for a limited US release on November 29th. Bono & the gang hope to have their 13th studio album completed by then and out sometime in 2014.
