My Review of the Sara Bareilles Show - With Video!

Sara Bareilles' show at the Parish this past Friday night was one of the best I have EVER seen (and I don't say that lightly - I've seen a lot of shows)! This one had it all - an enthusiastic crowd, no wait time, eclectic setlist, touching moments, and of course a sassy songstress who commanded the room.
The headliner-less evening began with a sultry rendition of "Love on the Rocks," setting the vibe for the rest of the night. She played a wide range of her own material, including one song that had never been recorded and two from her Once Upon Another Time EP, plus three covers - two of which were Elton John songs ("Bennie & the Jets" and the closer, "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road").
- A beautiful proposal on stage!
- Sara said Austin was the first city to sing along with "Brave" (and I'd like to take some of the credit for that, since we were one of the first stations in the country to play the song)
- An impromptu sing-a-long to "Part of Your World"
Speaking of which ... THIS is how you handle technical difficulties. At one point Sara's mic blew, but rather than let things get awkward, she did this:
And THAT'S how it's done. I eagerly await her return with a full band in the late summer/early fall, as her label told me would happen ... in the meantime, don't forget to pick up her new album The Blessed Unrest when it comes out July 16!
UPDATE: Thanks to Tony & Mercedes Shaw, who shot & sent me this video of "King of Anything" from Friday!
