Leaning Tree Adventures Sponsors Mud Adventure Race
Leaning Tree Adventures Sponsors Mud Adventure Race
In an arena dominated by national companies, Leaning Tree Adventures is staging its first mud adventure race, Miles of Mud. Operating at Rocky Hill Ranch in Smithville, Texas, the three-year- old-company is expanding beyond mountain bicycle races to build on the interest of runners whose goals seem to be getting wet and muddy. Leaning Tree has already hosted several national races of this sort at the ranch, but is coming up with a bigger and better course for local enthusiasts, that is to say more obstacles and more mud.
The June 1st Miles of Mud, the first of the company’s semi-annual races, will feature 35 or more obstacles and incorporate elements developed for its race training program. Each race in the series will feature 100% comprehensive registration fees, an unusual feature of such races. Proceeds will benefit various charities or non-profit groups, including Wounded Explosive Ordinance Disposal Warrior Foundation (WEODWF) through the Texas Patriot Challenge scheduled for 2014. Other beneficiaries will be Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin, Freedom Is Not Free, and Austin International Poetry Festival.
A schedule of activities sponsored or hosted by Leaning Tree Adventures can be found on the company’s website: www.rockyhillranch.com. For information about Miles of Mud, contact Greg Maxwell through the races site at www.milesofmud.com.
About Leaning Tree Adventures
Leaning Tree Adventures is owned and operated by Greg Maxwell (Bastrop, TX) and Ron Jorgenson (San Antonio, TX). Its activities are centered on the 1200 acres of Rocky Hill Ranch, one the premiere mountain bicycle facilities in the state. Since assuming a management role at the ranch in 2011, the company has expanded the number of mountain bicycle races and trail runs, and has added mud adventure races and festivals to the ranch’s profile.

THIRD ANNUAL AUSTIN BLUEBONNET EGG SHOW
THIRD ANNUAL AUSTIN BLUEBONNET EGG SHOW
"Celebrating the Beauty of The Egg
Inside and Out"
JUNE 1, 2013: 10:00 am - 12:30 pm
Callahan's General Store
501 Bastrop Highway / 183 S. Austin, TX 78741
Do you have backyard chickens and eggs? Its time to start saving those eggs! The Brazos Valley Poultry Club is pleased to announce the third annual Austin Bluebonnet Egg Show, which will be held June 1, 2013, 10:00 am - 12:30 pm, at Callahan's General Store, 501 Bastrop Highway, Austin, Texas. We'll also be launching the first annual Austin Bluebonnet Egg Drive, in partnership with Keep Austin Fed.
The Austin Bluebonnet Egg Show is an Open Breed Egg Show, featuring eggs from all breeds of chickens. Beautiful chickens are a joy to own, and its easy to produce high quality food in your backyard, even in the city. Urban backyard poultry owners and breeders will have their best eggs on exhibit, with juniors and adults competing head to head for top honors. The show features two main judging divisions, SHELL Classes andCONTENTS Classes. Classes are divided by color and size, with categories that anyone can enter, even if you just have one egg.
SHELL classes are judged based on uniformity of the eggs with regard to size, shape, color, texture, and cleanliness. CONTENTS classes are judged on interior qualities like yolk color, and features that indicate freshness. Pick your prettiest freshest eggs and see how they stand up to the rest! A Grand Champion and Reserve Champion will be awarded at the conclusion of the show, with prizes from Coyote Creek Farm, Callahan's General Store, Randall Burkey, and Happy Hen Treats.
The show also includes a SILENT & LIVE AUCTION, LIVE PHOTO BOOTH, LIVE EGG JUDGING, RAFFLE, and a few vendors from around central Texas. Even if you don't have chickens, you can still take home some unique handcrafted poultry items, bid on some fertile hatching eggs, or some rare breeding pairs and trios, or just some fun poultry stuff to add to your collection!
We will also launch our first annual Austin Bluebonnet Egg Drive, in partnership with Keep Austin Fed. The Egg Drive will run from June 1-Dec 31, 2013, with a goal of collecting and donating 1000 dozen eggs by the end of the year. A Keep Austin Fed donation booth will be set up at the front of the store on June 1st to kick off the drive. Drop off your surplus eggs and other nonperishable items to support the cause.
Thank you for your support. The Brazos Valley Poultry Club is a non-profit organization and welcomes your donations to promote exhibition poultry in Texas. See you at The Show!

A Note from Our Founder Stephen Doster
In May of 2012, Stephen Doster was honored to represent the US State Department's Arts Envoy Program in Swaziland, Africa.
"I gave multiple guitar and songwriting demonstrations and performed concerts for people of all ages. Many of the children we worked with were AIDS orphans. Swaziland has the highest rate of HIV and AIDS in the world. A staggering 15% of the population is AIDS orphans.
The highlight of my visit was a performance at the Bushfire International Festival of the Arts. At the festival we performed with the Swazi duo, Dusty and Stones, and 34 children from the SOS Village Children's Choir from the AIDS orphanage in Mbabane. I have a lasting image of driving away from an orphanage down a long, dirt road. A group of children, who had seen us play earlier, began waving and playing "air-guitar" as we passed. This was all the inspiration I would need."
