NYE 2013 Party Guide

12/30/2013

It's time to start thinking about your New Year's Eve plans! Luckily for you, we've provided you with a nifty little guide to what Austin has to offer for you to properly ring in the new year.

But, please. Don't hold us responsible for whatever state you find yourself in come January 1st.

1. NYE 1994 - Hotel Vegas

For all of you who feel a deep nostalgia for the 90s (and really, who doesn't), spend your night partying like it's 1994! The bands playing all night may not have existed 20 years ago, but they will be playing some of the best songs of that time period. So, lace up those platforms and Dr. Martens, throw on your favorite plaid shirt and have a NYE night Curt Cobain would be proud of (okay, maybe not).

2. NYE 2013 - Kung Fu Saloon

If you're the type of person that doesn't want to choose between blues, soul, hip hop, indie music, mashups, and disco when trying to make the perfect NYE plans, then this is most definitely the event for you. Enjoy all of the above at the downtown bar/arcade, but note that entry is $50 and that does not include alcohol.

3. Remix & Revelry - The W

We're going to step it up a notch because this event is a little pricey. However, the event is pretty much all inclusive (snacks, open bar, champagne toast) and includes performances from Max Frost, Emily Wolfe and Luis Banuelos. Plus, the fact that it's at the W means your efforts to dress up won't be wasted on a hipster dive on the east side.

4. The Breeders - Mohawk

Catch the Breeders for their only Texas stop as they round out The Last Splash tour. They also took a page out of Arcade Fire's book and requested formal wear. Cool venue, great band and fancy pants - can you say Instagram photos of the year?

5. New Year's Eve Improv Extravaganza - Hideout Theater

If the bar scene isn't really what you're going for this New Year's Eve, then enjoy some of the city's best professional improvisers and laugh your way into the new year. However, they are conveniently located downtown, so if you're thinking you'd like to join the rowdy masses after the show, you can do both!

6. Austin's New Year 2014 - Auditorium Shores

Of course, you can celebrate NYE without alcohol and parties (or spending any money). Enjoy some family-friendly fun at Auditorium Shores complete with fireworks so you can enjoy your NYE night and New Year's Day!
