This year’s 21st Annual Art From the Streets Show and Sale features more than 2,000 works of art created this year by 70 homeless and formerly homeless individuals who have taken part in free twice weekly open studio sessions run by volunteers from Art From the Streets.
Works range from acrylic paintings to pencil drawings to photography, jewelry and even pottery with every style represented with the diverse works. Artists will be on hand and visitors can shop for unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. Purchases from the sale help the artists who are homeless improve their living conditions.
Established in 1991, Art From the Streets is a volunteer-run program that provides a safe and encouraging environment where the positive spirit of homeless people is nurtured through art. More than 850 people attended last year’s show, and bought $57,000 of fantastic art, with the proceeds going directly to the artists. This project is funded and supported by in part by the City of Austin through the Economic Growth & Redevelopment Services Office/Cultural Arts Division.
Original artwork starts at $35 with proceeds, apart from a nominal fee, going directly to the artists. A $5 suggested admission donation helps to cover the cost of the ongoing program.
