ACTUAL LIVES AUSTIN
Announces
Disability from Real to Reel
An unforgettable two-day festival of local and international
independent films by and about people with disability.
VSA Texas and Actual Lives Austin is excited to announce the 3rd Annual Disability from Real to Reel an unforgettable two-day festival of local and international independent films by and about people with disabilities, scheduled for September 14-15, 2012 at the Dougherty Arts Center, 1110 Barton Springs Road in Austin, Texas.
The films in this latest venture of Actual Lives Austin, a project of VSA Texas, explore the wide array of disability representation in independent films and offer audiences the opportunity to engage in a meaningful and educational Q&A after each film. Individuals needing accommodations to participate should contact VSA Texas directly two weeks in advance of the event. ASL interpretation, CART, Live Audio Description, and information in Braille are available upon advance request. All foreıgn language films are subtitled and verbally translated. All venues are wheelchair accessible.
“Texas has a strong heritage of film and television production, and has often been called the Third Coast in the Film Industry. As the Americans With Disabilities Act celebrates it’s 21st year, we are seeing more independent films being produced nationally and worldwide, directed and performed by artists with disabilities. Small festivals such as Disability from Real to Reel show that dreams do become realities. I encourage young filmmakers to broaden their possibilities by reaching out to actors, directors and crew with disabilities in their future film endeavors. I also look to the local film and television companies to mentor, educate and provide training opportunities to all individuals, regardless of disability, interested in pursuing a career in the media arts,”
says Celia Hughes, Executive Director of VSA Texas.
The Festival is FREE this year, thanks to a generous donation from the Amerigroup Foundation. Please feel free to make a donation at http://www.vsatx.org/donate.html or at the door. Film Schedule and Ticket RSVP will begin August 27, 2012. Contact lynn@vsatx.org or 512-454-9912
