9/11 - 9/12 Austin Girls’ Choir performances Sept. 11 & 12 Sara Burden-McClure, Artistic Director, 453-0884 Austin Girls' Choir presents "An Enchanted Evening," a fun production featuring jazz and swing selections punched up with great choreography. 9/18 Hand to Hold will hold the “September Training Seminar Saturday, September 18 – 10a-3p. The local nonprofit Hand to Hold will hold the “September Training Seminar for New Helping Hands Parent Mentors” - Hand to Hold seeks parents of preemies who have a desire to share their experiences with peers by becoming a part of the Helping Hand Match program. Potential Helping Hands will utilize their personal experiences and knowledge with preterm birth, life in the NICU, a child born with a special health care need, loss of pregnancy and/or infant loss, to provide new parents with hope, support and an outlet for questions. Volunteers support one another by email, phone or in person, and the time commitment is left to each Helping Hand’s discretion. Training to become a Helping Hand consists of a one-time, half-day group volunteer training session. Training is free of charge and includes refreshments and lunch. It will take place at a convenient North Austin location which will be made available upon registration. 9/18 - 9/19 MamaCents Children’s Consignment Sale The MamaCents Children’s Consignment Sale is the largest sale of its kind in Central Texas. The upcoming semi-annual sale will feature fall and winter clothing, including boutique and name brand items, from size preemie to 16 (no juniors) at a fraction of retail. Also included will be maternity items, baby equipment of all kinds, furniture, toys, etc. Nearly 40,000 items are expected this year. All items are quality inspected before reaching the sale floor. 9/18 Reggae 4 Ability: A Benefit for Bradyn Four-year-old Bradyn Ferguson is funny, compassionate, smart, sociable and loves pets. He also has been struggling to manage his epilepsy since he was 18 months old. Luckily, he’s been accepted to receive a service dog from 4 Paws for Ability, a non-profit that trains dogs to help children with a wide range of needs. However, training a puppy for Bradyn is expensive. It costs an average of $22,000 to train and place a dog in a child’s home.

“Reggae 4 Ability: A Benefit for Bradyn” is an afternoon of live music and a silent auction to raise funds to help him get his new service dog. The benefit will be held on Sept. 18, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Encore, an Austin live music venue. All of the proceeds from the auction and show will go toward Bradyn’s cause.

The benefit show will feature four extraordinary, regional reggae acts who have generously donated their talents: DJ Ras Gilbert from San Antonio, Eagger from Houston and Axis Unity and The Contrabandits, both from Austin.

The silent auction will feature items from local Austin businesses, signed memorabilia from pop culture heroes and prints from talented artists such as photographer Trent Sherrill.

Free activities for the kids and Food will be available for purchase served by Ital Palace (all proceeds will go to Bradyns family).

Suggested donation is $10 cover per person, kids are free.

9/18 Weirdos Throws a Benefit Party for Shelter Dogs Austin, TX, September 18, 2010 The dogs will be howlin and the bands rockin at Weirdos on Saturday, September 18th because this uniquely Austin venue is hosting Party with a Paws, a benefit concert in support of A.D.O.P.T.! The festivities start at 4 PM and include performances by Dear Science, Neal Carmicheal, Hired Goons, and the Victoria Pennock Band. The $5 cash entry donation not only gets you in but also enters you to win one of the many door prizes! Vendor booths from dog related services will be set up as well as a doggy water park, a pet portrait station, and booth where you can get matching dog and owner tattoos! Festivities will continue until 10 PM and of course your four legged family members are welcome!

A.D.O.P.T. is a nonprofit dedicated to lowering euthanization and surrender rates and increasing adoption rates of dogs by providing training assistance to shelters and those individuals who have nowhere else to turn. It is the organizations goal to help you keep your adopted family member and make it the best relationship youve ever had. Every 8 seconds a dog is euthanized in the United States, and 5 7 million companion animals enter shelters every year. A.D.O.P.T.s mission is to dramatically reduce those numbers via training.

9/25 5th Annual Suddenlink Bluegrass Festival The City of Leander and Suddenlink Communications are again teaming up for the 5th Annual Suddenlink Bluegrass Festival on Saturday, September 25th.

12/4 2010 Holiday Sing-Along and Downtown Stroll Come spread holiday cheer with the Downtown Austin Alliance. The FREE family friendly event begins Saturday, December 4 at 6pm. Congress Ave. will be open late, and will have all your yuletide necessities!

Traditional carols will start at 6pm on the south steps of the Capitol. As the clock strikes 7 pm the countdown begins to the lighting of the Capitol tree.
