At KGSR, our mission is to use media and entertainment to connect and ultimately strengthen our community, especially in these four areas:
Attending to the basic needs of all residents – especially children. This means food, clothing, shelter, and safety.
Looking out for our pets and other animals that depend on us.
Supporting those who have honorably served our country in the military.
Protecting our environment and the natural beauty of our city.
SXSW Live Broadcast
Every SXSW, KGSR posts up in the W Austin in downtown Austin to interview and host a variety of artists. The charitable live broadcast has raised over $82,600 benefitting Austin’s Make-A-Wish Foundation, a national organization that is dedicated to empowering and granting the wishes of young children battling life-threatening medical conditions.
KGSR’s Broadcasts CD is one of the fastest selling independently produced CDs in the country. A portion of proceeds benefit local non-profit partners, such as The SIMS Foundation and The Seton Foundation—both addressing healthcare gaps for those in need. To date, KGSR has donated over $3 million through CD sales!
KGSR’s Anniversary Party celebrates what KGSR was built on - live music! Every holiday season, the heritage concert raises funds and awareness for The Sims Foundation
, a local organization offering low-cost mental health services to the music community.
Every first weekend of ACL, KGSR hosts a live broadcast from Threadgill’s World Headquarters that features live performances and artist interviews. The Broadcast has raised over $21,050 for the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM), an organization that helps Austin’s low income, uninsured musicians attain affordable healthcare.
Woofstock benefits life-saving, pet refuges in the Austin area including The Austin Humane Society, Wilco Animal Shelter, and Austin Pets Alive!. Listeners who come with a donation to the shelters get to see an exclusive performance from a KGSR artist!
