Ruby's BBQ on 29th Street Set To Close After 29 Years
After almost 30 years of serving up some of Austin's finest Southern eats, Ruby's BBQ on 29th Street will be closing its doors by the end of February, Austin Chronicle reports. Opened by Pat Mares and her late husband Luke Zimmerman in 1988, Ruby's BBQ has been a long time staple for students, locals, and a necessary stop on every foodie visitor's list. Many of Ruby's fans are taking to social media today to mourn the news of yet another departing Austin institution - see below for some of the kind words and memories being shared.
No official closing date has been set yet, so get there ASAP to stock up on that famous sauce!
Ruby's BBQ is closing. Back in the day, the legendary Antone's blues club was next door. Before I was old enough to drink, I would go eat at Ruby's, then go watch the blues in a dank dark club. To that younger version of myself, it was about as close to heaven as you could get. pic.twitter.com/vHUqZ5AyZf

Had to make at least one more visit to an Austin classic soon to be lost to history. Thank you Ruby's BBQ for all the good food. pic.twitter.com/uqfVP6U7Db
