Get to Know Your Blues on the Green Artists: Grupo Fantasma & Greyhounds

Having to postpone last week's Blues on the Green because of some storms has left us in a bit of a BOTG drought (weather pun intended). So, we're all anxiously awaiting next week's show when Greyhounds and Grupo Fantasma bring the party to Zilker Park!

But first, get to know the bands a little better so you're fully prepared to sing and dance along next week!

As Greyhounds, guitarist Andrew Trube and keyboardist Anthony Farrell have been making music and touring for 15 years, refining and developing a sound Trube calls “Hall and Oates meet ZZ Top.” In April, the band released their Ardent Music debut, Accumulator--an 11-song collection of rich, rootsy soul.

Get a taste of what's to come in the video below of a performance at Austin's C-Boys earlier this year.

Grupo Fantasma

Without question, Grupo Fantasma is Austin’s most important Latin music collective ever. In 2011 they won a Grammy for their self-produced release El Existential on Nat Geo Music, which the Wall Street Journal called “Latin music both new and traditional…vibrant fusions that transcend easy classification.” They have served as the backing band on several occasions for the legendary Prince and have worked or recorded with Maceo Parker, Sheila-E, Curt Kirkwood of the Meat Puppets, Ruben Ramos, GZA of the Wu-Tang Clan, Daniel Johnston and many others. This will be their Blues On The Green debut.

The video below is of their performance this past NYE at the Belmont covering Talking Head's "Burning Down the House" with their Latin music flair.

Both bands can be found on our Blues on the Green playlist below, so you can jam them all this week leading up to the show (and after if you love them as much as we do!). Catch them live next Wednesday for Blues on the Green starting at 8PM!
