Spoon Offers Vinyl Gratification
On August 5th, Spoon will release their first new album in four years, They Want My Soul. But on July 15th, fans will be able to take home a preview - a 10" vinyl single with three songs from the album. What Spoon is called their Vinyl Gratification program encourages fans to pre-order the record at one of 150 independent record stores nationwide- including Austin's Waterloo Records, who are specifically mentioned by Spoon frontman Britt Daniel in the press release announcing the program.. The idea is to offer fans a reason to support not just their local mom 'n' pop/brick 'n' mortar record stores, but also to buy vinyl instead of CDs or digital downloads. In addition to Waterloo, Austin's End Of An Ear will also participate.
Here's how it works:
- Beginning July 15, when you go to one of the participating stores and pre-order the album. Immediately, you'll be handed a limited edition 10″ vinyl featuring three pre-release songs from the album.
- Then hold on to your receipt as proof of purchase and on or after August 5, bring your receipt back to the store where you pre-ordered to get your 180g white vinyl copy of the LP.
