Playlist: 10 Great Performances Of The National Anthem

I spent the weekend listening to the same song. Again and again.

World Cup. The 4th of July. The bicentennial year of Francis Scott Key's "The Star-Spangled Banner." Never has been there a better time to spend the weekend listening to the national anthem, over and over. That's exactly what I did last weekend for Esquire.

The playlist I wound up compiling featured ten radically different versions of what's become America's most notoriously difficult song to perform. Who made the cut? Duke Ellington, Lou Reed and Nirvana are among the more interesting contributions. And Austin is represented by Gary Clark Jr. and his gorgeously understated performance earlier this year at the NBA All-Star Game.
