Texas Tornados
Playing KGSR Blues On The Green: June 9
The ultimate Tex-Mex super group is back. For their new album, Esta Bueno, Augie Meyers and Flaco Jiménez reunite with the son of Doug Sahm, Shawn Sahm, in a new recording that includes the final work of the legendary Freddy Fender as well as a lost demo from Doug himself. The album was produced by Shawn Sahm and was released by Ray Benson s Bismeaux Records. In addition to the featured members, the recording includes appearance from Tornados alumni Louie Ortega, Speedy Sparks and Ernie Durawa. In a review of the album, The Austin-American Statesman declared 'Tex-Mex rock, conjunto, country, blues, swamp pop, polkas — the glorious musical mash-up that was the hallmark of the Texas Tornados is still alive and well."

Antone's 35th Anniversary Show with Carolyn Wonderland
Playing KGSR Blues On The Green: June 23

A few days ahead of the official kick-off of Antone’s annual anniversary festivities, KGSR and Antone’s will celebrate the 35th Anniversary of Austin’s Home Of The Blues. Carolyn Wonderland was one of Clifford Antone’s favorite performers and she’ll headline an evening of blues and traditional rock ‘n’ roll that will also feature special appearances from a pair of Antone’s mainstays- Derek O’Brien and Malford Milligan.

Wonderland is a triple threat- a distinctive songwriter a soulful singer, and a serious guitar goddess. Her last record- Miss Understood- was produced by 9-time Grammy-winner, Ray Benson, and recorded in Austin. It featured 6 new songs from Wonderland, as well as choice selections from Bruce Robison, JJ Cale, Terri Hendrix and Rick Derringer.
Alejandro Escovedo

Alejandro Escovedo
Playing KGSR Blues On The Green: July 7
Long one of Austin’s most perennially popular and admired performers, 2008’s Real Animal took Alejandro Escovedo to new levels nationally and internationally – he played huge festivals like Bonnaroo, shared a mic with Bruce Springsteen, and racked up four-star review after four-star review. Now he’s back with Street Songs Of Love, an album that features appearances from Springsteen and Ian Hunter and was produced by Tony Visconti (David Bowie, T. Rex, Paul McCartney). Escovedo’s already shared the new songs on an episode of Austin City Limits for air later in the year.

BoDeans - Playing KGSR Blues On The Green: July 21
with special guest Sahara Smith

Twenty three years after their T-Bone Burnett produced debut Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams led them to win a Rolling Stone reader’s poll as “Best New American Band,” BoDeans are still rocking and harmonizing gracefully. The dynamic musical duo—Kurt Neumann (vocals and electric guitar) and Sam Llanas (vocals and acoustic guitar)—is still focused on, as Neumann says, “writing songs that bring good things to the world.” Mr. Sad Clown is their latest record, which brought us the KGSR hit “Stay.” They’re also a band with strong Austin connections- Neumann lives 20 minutes outside Austin, while noted Austin accordionist Bukka Allen appears with the group regularly.
Charlie Mars

Charlie Mars
Playing KGSR Blues On The Green: August 4
with special guest Amy Cook

Charlie Mars is from Mississippi but might as well be from Austin. Last year’s Like a Bird, Like a Plane was recorded here in town with producer Billy Harvey and featured two songs that would become KGSR hits- “Listen To The Darkside” and Meet Me At The Backdoor.” Mars is also touring with the album’s drummer, Austin’s own JJ Johnson. In support of the album, Mars has sung the national anthem at a New Orleans Saints Game, played a private show for Livestrong at the personal invitation of Lance Armstrong, and was the centerpiece of an Esquire fashion spread that also featured Dierks Bentley and Bob Schneider. Mars was also featured at KGSR Anniversary Party and the kick-off of this season’s Unplugged At The Grove. In October, he’ll make his first appearance at the Austin City Limits Music Festival.

Austin singer-songwriter Amy Cook’s latest record, Let the Light In, was produced by Alejandro Escovedo. Along with stellar reviews, its yielded an Austin Chronicle cover feature and a bona fide KGSR hit, “Hotel Lights.”
Raul Malo

Raul Malo
Playing KGSR Blues On The Green: August 18
with special guest Nakia

KGSR fans really need no introduction to Raul Malo. He’s been one of the station’s most consistent voices- from his work with the Mavericks to his solo career. He’s a Grammy winner and his glorious voice has been rapturously described by The New York Times as “exceptional” and The Wall Street Journal as “exquisite.” Its safe to say its crystal purity is simply unmatched by any other singer’s today. Malo’s new album, produced in Austin during and after SXSW, will be released the week of his Blues On The Green performance. Expect to hear portions of the albums and all the hits. And expect to dance. A lot.
